The Atelier Class Block 3

Students will have completed 56 hours of in-class sessions. At this stage students will have a very good idea of values, composition, working with different mediums and exploring classic and modern Art.

This block will start to build a deeper understanding of colour theory, explore new techniques and work on an art piece for a longer period.

Lessons are 2 hours long.

  • Homework

    Homework will require atleast 2 hours per week. We want to commit to on average 104 hours per year self study and development. Homework will be variable subject matters and will be logged in a sketch journal.

  • Research and Discovery

    In order to build our own style we must research and discover Art from all cultures and styles. These artistic cues will be represented in art that we produce to tell a unique story. We will be reading works to enhance this.

  • Fieldwork

    We will be taking trips to galleries where specifically curated guides will be delivered. We will also conduct sketches and outdoor paintings and art if the weather allows.

Programme schedule

  • Lesson 1

    Colour Theory. We will have a session where we mix colours in order to train ourselves to deliver exact match.

  • Lesson 2

    Fresco Art. We will explore Fresco art like Michelangelo. Plastering on a wooden board we will produce a small Fresco piece.

  • Lesson 3

    Sketching. We will take our sketching to a new level. Using a dry brush and all our other equipment we have aquired.

  • Lesson 4

    Abstract art study of mid 19th Century Artist Jackson Pollock.

  • Lesson 5

    Anatomy. We will be learning how to draw classically with Sanguine pencils.

  • Lesson 6

    Pastel work. We will be using pastels as the old French master artists.

  • Lesson 7

    We will explore Latin American Art style.

  • Lesson 8

    Retuning to Values using charcoal willow we will be improving draftsmanship drawing a still life

  • Lesson 9

    Studying Henri Matisse we will be looking at cutting out paper in order to form shapes as well as composition and delivery.

  • Lesson 10

    Students will finish their block with a final piece in oil paints.

We will be providing everything for the course, but we recommend that these items must be bought by you so then homework can be given and they should be brought to each lesson.
